The region of Tarragona — and especially the area of Terres de l’Ebre — is a zone with a high recurrence of wildfires, a reality that affects its landscape, the primary sector, and the lives of the people who live there.

In response to this situation, and within the context of climate change, the project “Training for Primary School Teachers: Adapting to Wildfires in a Climate Change Context in the Province of Tarragona” was created. The main objective is to provide tools and educational resources so that teachers can address the topic of wildfires and landscape management in the classroom, tailored to the local context.

With this initiative, we aim to foster environmental awareness among young children by promoting understanding of the importance of having adapted landscapes as a key strategy for preventing large wildfires.

Implementation Project

Subsequently, funding was obtained to implement this project, providing theoretical sessions and connecting the teaching staff with experts in territorial management in order to equip teachers with the necessary knowledge to bring what they have learned into the classroom. This implementation phase concludes in June 2026.

The training and implementation of this project has been funded by the Tarragona Provincial Council through the 2024 grant call for the development of environmental protection and improvement projects.
