The main objective of this project is to provide scientific and technical rigor to the proposal promoted by the Department of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition of the Government of Catalonia, which aims to financially compensate for the conservation of ecosystem services through extensive livestock farming.
For two years, the project team will work to understand the potential impact of this policy on the economic and social future of livestock farms, as well as on the environmental benefits they generate. To this end, data will be collected on the ground: farmers will be interviewed, pasture areas will be visited, and all the information collected will be analyzed.
This work aims to identify which payment models and governance systems can best serve the policy to ensure it is effective and well-received by the sector. Furthermore, ongoing communication will be maintained with the government and other stakeholders to collaboratively develop solid proposals for both implementing the new policy and evaluating it once it is in place.
This project is supported by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
