A conflict exists between two management objectives in two protected areas of Catalonia (Montnegre Corredor Natural Park and the Alta Garrotxa Natural Area of Interest): biodiversity conservation and forest fire prevention. The conflict stems from the incompatibility between the presence of livestock grazing areas that are strategically important for forest fires and the conservation of associated flora and fauna species within specific Habitats of Community Interest.
This project will explore and promote compatibility between the conservation of Habitats of Community Interest and the management of wildfire through extensive livestock farming in two protected areas of Catalonia: Parc Natural del Montnegre Corredor and the Espai d’Interès Natural de l’Alta Garrotxa.
This project is supported by the “Initiative Homme – Faune Sauvage” Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco. We have the collaboration of the “Grupo Campo Grande” observatory, Fundación Entretantos
