On 29 September, the third and final workshop of the Barcelona Living Lab was held at Espai Cooperatiu Bloc 4 (Can Batll\u00f3, Barcelona), as part of the European CARMINE project. The workshop, organised by the Pau Costa Foundation and Mitiga, brought together representatives from different sectors to jointly advance a roadmap for the adaptation to and mitigation of wildfire risk across the metropolitan area.

From identified measures to adaptation pathways towards 2050<\/strong>
The workshop built on the work carried out during the two previous meetings. The first, held in December 2024, focused on identifying the main challenges associated with climate change, as well as possible adaptation and mitigation measures and the barriers to implementing them. During the second workshop, held in October 2025, participants worked on developing a shared vision for 2050, tailored to the needs and priorities of the different sectors.

\u201cNow, with the third workshop, we want to take this a step further: to turn this vision and the measures identified into concrete adaptation and mitigation pathways that will allow us to move towards a more climate-resilient and sustainable metropolitan area,\u201d explains Guillem Canaleta, CARMINE project lead at the Pau Costa Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the workshop, participants reviewed the results of the previous sessions and worked in groups to identify and plan critical milestones for wildfire risk management, as well as to develop solutions that can contribute to achieving the vision defined for 2050. One of the working sessions also focused on nature-based solutions to reduce wildfire risk, analysing the current situation and the main barriers that may hinder their implementation.

A shared perspective on a growing risk<\/strong>
The Barcelona Living Lab working group brought together representatives from a range of sectors, including forestry, agriculture, conservation and civil protection, with the aim of incorporating different perspectives into the development of policies and strategies for managing large wildfire risk in the context of climate change. The third workshop is intended to consolidate the collaborative work developed throughout the project and to move towards longer-term planning, connecting the proposed measures with a shared vision of resilience for 2050.

\u201cFollowing the third workshop, the aim is to develop a roadmap towards a more wildfire- resilient Barcelona metropolitan area, with 2050 as the horizon. For this reason, it will be essential to share this roadmap with the groups that have participated in the workshops, so that they can take it into account and integrate it into their day-to-day decision-making,\u201d concludes Guillem Canaleta from the Pau Costa Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
