Forest bioeconomy is the key to revitalising the territory, creating jobs, and making forests more resilient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bio For Piri has worked in two intervention areas\u2014Aliny\u00e0 (Alt Urgell, Lleida) and A\u00efnsa-Sobrarbe (Huesca)\u2014with a clear vision: to care for forests, reduce risk, and promote new activities that keep the territory alive. It is a virtuous cycle that combines naturalistic and adaptive forest management, wildfire risk management, and socio-economic revitalisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paucostafoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/alinya-scaled.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"767\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paucostafoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/alinya-1024x767.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.paucostafoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/alinya-1024x767.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.paucostafoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/alinya-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.paucostafoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/alinya-768x575.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.paucostafoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/alinya-1536x1150.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.paucostafoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/alinya-2048x1533.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.paucostafoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/alinya-600x449.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Project impact in figures<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The results of Bio For Piri can be explained through its impact in three different areas: social, economic, and environmental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Social impact:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Participation of <strong>76 people and 26 administrations, organisations,<\/strong> and companies involved in the project.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Estimated communication reach of <strong>20 million people<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>428 direct beneficiaries<\/strong> of the activities carried out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organisation of <strong>2 bioblitzes<\/strong> (citizen science events) with the participation of 58 people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Celebration of <strong>17 volunteer days<\/strong>, bringing together a total of <strong>105 participants<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Economic impact:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Acquisition of <strong>7 new biomass supply clients<\/strong>, including the local health centre (CAP), the municipal sports centre, the municipal music schools of La Seu d\u2019Urgell, and a local pig farm.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Construction of 1<strong> prototype rural dwelling using local wood<\/strong>, in collaboration with IAAC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delivery of <strong>2 editions of the forestry labour course<\/strong>, with a total of <strong>16 participants<\/strong>, 13 of whom obtained the European ECC1 chainsaw operator certification.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creation of <strong>6 forest-related jobs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organisation of <strong>4 knowledge-transfer seminars <\/strong>on naturalistic forest management, with around 87 participants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development of <strong>8 environmental packages designed<\/strong> to attract private investment for the promotion of the forest bioeconomy, while helping companies meet their sustainability goals. It is a project that works and can be replicated in other territories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project has generated important lessons, such as the fact that supporting a network of small-scale operations is the most sustainable way to strengthen local roots and revitalize the territory. It has also shown that local wood has significant potential to increase its added value in areas like bio-construction, becoming a key asset for regional development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, economic revitalisation alone is not enough to promote rural repopulation. It has been shown that this challenge goes beyond the project\u2019s scope.
