[ESP] Last April the Pau Costa Foundation organized together with the Catalonian Forest Consortium (CFC) a day focused on the analysis of the wind storm that affected the center of Catalonia on December 9, 2014. The day was framed in the 32nd edition of the Silvicultural Technical Conference organized by the Forestry Consortium of Catalonia.
On the day, developed in the field, it was possible to observe first-hand the spectacular damage caused by the wind storm.
Of great added value were the contributions of the technicians who kindly offered to come, present and share their knowledge. So, SMC people (Catalan Meteorological Service), CPF (Forest Property Center), CTFC (Forest Technology Center of Catalonia), kindly came to discuss the feasibility of treatments to increase the resilience of forest masses to these disturbances and options to render a damaged area like the one we were visiting.
As it is a relatively rare disturbance in these latitudes, such as windstorms, it was of great interest the exhibition of the Meteorological Service of Catalonia to contextualize the recurrence and affectation of these phenomena at European level.
Also present were managers of the natural space of Can Déu (Sabadell), who were able to present their experiences in the management of fallen wood work first-hand.
In addition, and to give even more value to the day, we could enjoy the presence of Yves Lesgourgues former CEO of Regional Center of Forest Property of the Aquitaine region who explained to us the great experience in managing the effects of these disturbances after the storms suffered in France by Lothar (1999) and Klaus (2009).
